    NEW BUSINESS

    1. Mr. Brockel reported that we will be holding our Fall Deal Lake Clean-Up to coincide with Monmouth University’s Big Event, which is being held on November 9th this year.

    MINUTES – REGULAR MEETING

    AUGUST 15, 2024

The Commission Clerk will send out the request to Fish & Wildlife for the permit to lower the lake beginning November 3rd.

Peter Avakian, Commission Engineer, wanted to voice his concerns over people demanding the lake be lowered when a storm is predicted.  The DLC received numerous calls to lower the lake ahead of the most recent storm.  The storm was not as predicted and if we had lowered the lake there would have been a tremendous fish kill.

Mr. Avakian also thanked Josh Starner the Alternate Commissioner from the City of Asbury Park, for all his hard work in getting the big logs out of the lake.

Bruce Fromer, Commissioner from the Borough of Allenhurst, asked Mr. Avakian to give a brief explanation of why we can’t just lower the lake.

Mr. Avakian gave brief explanation of how the flume works.  He went on the say we are regulated by the State and cannot just lower the lake.

7:18PM – Josh Starner, Alternate Commissioner City of Asbury Park, arrived at the meeting.

Mr. Fromer had comments to make about the storms recently and their effect on the lake.

Carolyn Roarty, Borough of Interlaken Commissioner, reported on her recent paddle around Deal Lake.

Mr. Brockel said the Borough of Allenhurst has put up three fountains in the lake by the bridge.  They have also reached out to the Asbury Park Fishing Club to help them run a fishing contest for the kids.

    COMMISSIONER’S LAST WORD

Margot Fernicola, Village of Loch Arbour Commissioner – has noticed there is a lot more garbage this year on the beaches and the streets.  She pointed out that the kids who work at the beach do not do clean-up.

Josh Starner, City of Asbury Park Alternate Commissioner – has checked the weather and it appears we are in good shape with the surge.

Carolyn Roarty, Borough of Interlaken Commissioner – also noticed an awful lot of trash this summer.

Bruce Fromer, Borough of Allenhurst Commissioner – wanted to say it appears the geese treatment is working.  There are a lot less geese.  Also noticed not as many boaters this year.
